RSS is short for " Really Simple Syndication". It is a standardised way to publish frequently updated content, for example: news articles, blog posts, update notices, sports stories, products & software reviews etc.are all delivered via RSS. RSS feeds offer a better way to access the new and changing content you want to see but better than an email newsletter. So why use RSS?
1. Subscribing to RSS feeds and un-subscribing is instantaneous, anonymous, and completely under your own control. 2. You never submit your email address. You give your RSS client the web address of the feeds you want to "follow". 3. There is little or no spam. Nobody knows or cares which entries you read, RSS is efficient. So how to use it? If a website you are interested in let's say Irish News, so you type into your favourite web browser "Irish News RSS". When the page opens you copy the url address to your favourite RSS Reader, or you will notice an orange RSS button on the page. By clicking on the button you can subscribe to the feed in a number of different ways. One method is to drag the URL of the RSS feed into your newsreader; another is to cut and paste the same URL into a new feed in your newsreader. Simple. So examples of RSS Readers can be either download Readers or use a Website that acts as a Reader. List of some downloadable NewsReader are: FeedDemon, QuiteRSS, RSSBandit, OmeaReader, and Awasu Examples of Website Readers: FeedReader, Feedly, The Old Reader, and InoReader. Literacy in IrelandIn the past literacy was considered to be the ability to read and write. Today the meaning of literacy has changed to reflect changes in society and the skills needed by individuals to participate fully in society. It involves listening, speaking, reading, writing, numeracy and using everyday technology to communicate and handle information. Categories

AuthorHi, my name is Loreto and I'm an adult literacy tutor. I created this website to keep track of all things useful I have come across. Sometimes I am given a link by someone and if its not put on here it can be forgotten about. If you come across something you think is useful or even just fun, drop me a note to let me know and I will put it on here. Thank you for your time and I hope you find this website useful. |
